The garden is a personal display of its creator, the gardener. Whether intentional or not, our gardens represent and disclose the personality of the gardener, which is why no two gardens are ever the same. In the same manner we decorate our homes, adding a little decor directly into our gardens creates added interest, personality and just plain fun. If your crafty you can make things, if your thrifty you can go junking, and if you like to shop you can buy just about anything you want or like, within your budget of course.
I’ve looked around and picked out some garden decor ideas that anyone can incorporate into their garden, regardless of its size or complexity. The idea is to get your own creative juices flowing, take a project idea and re-work it to suit your situation, abilities and preferences. Sometimes we just need a little kick start to get our imagination in motion.
THE LARGE FLOWERPOT
We all have access to extra flower pots, and something as simple as placing it amongst your flower beds and planting it up goes a long way. If its a particularly attractive pot, you don’t even have to pot it up. Got stairs, place a few pots on them and fill them up with bright cheerful blooms.
THE GARDEN BENCH
Adding a garden bench within your garden does two things. It draws your eyes to a specific area within the garden as well as gives you a special place to relax and admire all your hard work. If you don’t have a bench a simple chair will do, give it some character and splash by painting it a bright colour.
THE OLD RUSTY WHEELBARROW or WAGON
If you have or can find one, the rustier the better. They make a perfect planting area for anything you choose, maybe a fairy garden or small herb garden close to your kitchen door. You can also move them around your garden to fill in empty spots as the season progresses.
GO GARDEN JUNKING
Find old garden tools, watering cans, cow bells, pails or buckets. Place them around your garden or even create a display against your fence or garden shed. Easier yet, gather up a few interesting stones and stack them up on top of each other.
THE OLD BICYCLE
Paint up an old bicycle, add a basket or pots and plant a mini flower or herb garden.
The internet abounds with ideas and tutorials for how to make garden decor. The ideas are almost endless, here are just a few. You might want to check out my Pinterest Boards for many more ideas and inspiration.

HELP THE BIRDS
By making decorative bird houses and feeders you not only add interest to your garden but are also doing the birds a big favour. They will repay your kindness by eating those harmful insects and serenading you with their delightful songs.
Purchase an appealing piece of garden art, a statuary, bird bath, gazing ball, fountain or figurine. Find a spot in the garden where it will stand out, or slightly hide it for the element of surprise.
