Alchymist is an older variety of rose hybridized in 1956. The root word alchemy in its name refers to its colouring which changes with certain weather conditions. It’s a bit like have several different roses on the same shrub.
Generally the outer petals tend to be yellow and the inner petals are pink. This tends to make the flower appear to be apricot. As the bloom ages the yellow parts fade and the pink petals deepen, particularly in very hot weather.
Rose alchymist blooms just once early in the season as long stemmed clusters and blooms for a long time. It is a shrub rose but can be used as a climbing rose as it grows stiff, upright vigorous stems. Lots of large prickles on this one, but it performs well in the heat and will survive up to zone 5 winters. It also sports a beautiful strong and fruity scent.
