As summer slows down and fall approches many of us look around our gardens and feel a little defeated. Where have all the flowers gone we ask? By choosing a selection of plants that typically bloom late in the season, there is no reason not to have gorgeous blooms right up until the end of your gardening season.
To keep fall gardens from looking tired during this time of year, continue to dead head spent blooms, cut back summer perennials that have finished flowering and keep the weeds at bay. Continuing to maintain your flower beds during the fall gardening season will give the fabulous fall blooming perennials a chance to show off their freshly arrived beauty. Also, remember to keep watering. Unless you receive a lot of rain the garden beds can be surprisingly dry at this time.
