As we head into August the peak of the daylily season here is behind us. There are still lots of blooms and many will even go into September, but the big show is over for this year. I had many new cultivars blooming for the first time this season which added extra joy.
One can never take enough pictures it seems, and favourites quickly stand out. I’ve selected a few of the daylilies that really stood out for me in the garden this year. These plants not only had beautiful blooms but also developed several scapes and buds making for long blooming hardy varieties.
Beautiful Edgings is a delicate cream with rose edges and is also fragrant.
Barbara Dittmer has a gold edge and a strong magenta rose eye zone.
Spin Master is a beautiful UFO Crispate hardy to zone 3.
Forever Redeemed is a knockout daylily with bold colors and a large throat.
Giggle Creek has a very showy eye zone and matching edge.
Ed Brown has a wonderful gold ruffled edge.
Spirit of Life has unique color tones and is very fragrant.
Butter Pecan looks good enough to eat.
Flight into Egypt is gorgeous tones of peach and red-yellow, also fragrant.
Green Mystique is my all time favorite with it’s yellow green tones and frilly edges.
Schnickle Fritz is a reliable large double bloom.
